I was looking to relocate from a rapidly developing area of Frederick County, Maryland to Washington County. However, when I discovered the Washington County Commissioners supported this ICE warehouse and did not allow public commentary in their deliberations, there is no way I want to live in Washington County.

Interstate 81 widening — gone. Airport expansion — gone. HUD low-cost housing funding — reportedly next. The most vulnerable residents will pay the steepest price for a political stunt they never asked for.
The coalition has yet to explain how blocking a humane facility helps anyone — or how losing $381 million helps the low-income families they claim to champion. They are, however, still protesting — rather than asking Governor Moore to stop the lawsuit.”
Tom, this would be a devastating argument if the $381 million grant you’re describing actually existed.
Washington County asked the federal government for help securing roughly $300–350 million for I-81 widening and another $25–30 million for airport improvements AFTER the Commissioners pledged their support for the ICE facility. That was a wish list, not an awarded $381 million grant that was later taken away because of the Attorney General’s lawsuit.
And “I-81 widening: gone” is also false. Maryland’s transportation documents still include the I-81 widening project, and Washington County reported in April that Phase 2A was scheduled to begin construction in spring 2027 while the County continued seeking funding for later phases.
As for “HUD low-cost housing funding: reportedly next,” that’s an especially creative way of saying, “I don’t have evidence for this either.”
So the story here isn’t “liberals cost Washington County $381 million.” It’s that the Commissioners enthusiastically backed an ICE facility, then asked the federal government for hundreds of millions of dollars for projects the County had already wanted for years.
You managed to turn “the County asked for money” into “the County had $381 million and liberals lost it.” Those are very different things.

It stinks! I love Washington County’s landscapes and would otherwise move to farm there in a heartbeat. 😪
